Lisa Witter knows bureaucracy isn’t sexy and that good work often goes unnoticed. Despite this, she works tirelessly to try and ensure politicians and public servants have the training necessary to carry out their duties to the best of their ability. This includes providing pathways for existing and future politicians to learn about how to implement science into their policymaking objectives. In her conversation with Julia Stamm, Lisa discusses the potential innovation science can bring to the government in times of crisis and the necessity for governments to work with the scientific community to develop fair and equitable rules surrounding the integration of scientific advancements into our society. Lisa Witter is co-founder of Apolitical, a global learning network for government, named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in the world. She co-founder CEO of the Apolitical Foundation, a not-for-profit founded by Apolitical to advance the revitalization of democracy by building better politics. The foundation’s keystone project, Apolitical Academy Global, helps prepare a new generation of transformational political leaders via a network of non-partisan political training academies. She’s a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, co-chairs the Forum’s Council on Agile Governance. She is a former public servant with deep experience in gender and behavioral science and has founded numerous political training academies over the last 25 years. She was awarded the 2020 Creative Bureaucracy Award and named a BMW Foundation Futurity Fellow in 2022. She loves wearing dresses, her childhood nickname was ‘Animal’ from the sports fields, and dreams of being a stand-up comedian (but might not be funny enough.)
Dr. Julia Stamm is the founder of The Futures Project (TFP), an international non-profit initiative to ensure that innovation and technology serve the needs of people and planet.
In November 2021, Julia received the Digital Female Leader Award, category Global Hero, for her work. Julia has long-standing leadership and management experience in national and international academic institutions and international organisations, such as European Cooperation in Science and Technology and the European Commission. She regularly advises national and international organisations and institutions on issues around science, policy & innovation.
