Digitalisation is both a challenge and an opportunity for cities around the world. As such, it needs to be part of the way we approach urban development. The synthesis of digitalisation and urban development is how smart cities are created. Smart cities need to be people-centered, sustainable, and resilient; they also need to be capable of activating their citizens. Essential to this context is the question of how smart cities are – and should be – governed. In this panel, we’ll hear from several experienced city CTOs and CIOs on their experiences with different models of smart city governance. We are looking for answers to some of these questions:
– What are crucial steps for city governments that want to initiate smart city developments?
– How do we make sure that citizen participation both supports and enhances such developments?
– How can embedded participation work together with representative government?
– Are there best practice models for how smart cities should be governed?
